The Kingdom of Bhutan, located in Southern Asia, is a landlocked country. It is a member of the United Nations and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The key sectors that provide most jobs are agriculture, cultivating rice, corn, root crops, citrus fruit, barley, wheat & potatoes and the raising of livestock including yaks, cattle and sheep. Hydroelectric power serves as a significant resource and it is sold to India. Tourism is also an important sector which is responsible for bringing in more foreign exchange than any other industry. Main industries of the country include cement, wood products, processed fruits, calcium carbide and tourism. |
